TOTEM SERIES

Vakr is the story of the synthesis of old and new techniques to generate timeless furniture designs. Sculptural in character, the form is guided by the laws of physics and the nature of the materials. A new furniture series by Vakr: ‘Lehar’ is inspired by the shape and form of flexible membranes and structures; when weight or pressure is applied on them. It is a re-interpretation of how the form yields, morphing the structure to reach a stable point. Vakr breaks conventional furniture stereotypes by Exploring Concrete, Rattan, and Wood in an unusual amalgamation.

SANGRAH

(VAKR HOMES)

Sangrah – means “collection”, This series is a design alternative to house all the smaller items within a space in a bespoke manner. The sangrah series aims at bringing these items, kept in drawers or in boxes, on shelves, together in a contemporary spin. Versatile in nature, it can used as a jewellery keeper, key base, as a stationary unit or even as an accessory to the bar, depending on the user’s intent.

DRAVAM SERIES

The Dravam collection is a collaborative journey between designer and artisan looking to re-imagine their Indian heritage. Through the expertise of various artisans, Vakr Studio endeavours to re-imagine specific traditional disciplines that embody centuries-old knowledge passed on from one generation to another. Each furniture piece in the series evokes an emotional impact embedded within its functionality. With engraving experts, wood artisans, and specialised painters, a unique design vocabulary emerges, pushing our understanding of modernity to meet centuries-old cultural histories.

DVAITA SERIES

Dvaita represents the “duality” of the inherent forms that a material takes and morphs into, once put in a controlled environment. It signifies the ephemeral isomorphic mimicry of brass that pretends to molten to morph into the sand molds. Almost as if it (the brass) comes to life to realize itself into its true nature of a solid form. Dvaita is a series of handcrafted products designed and crafted by Vakr Studio in an endeavour to revive the lost-wax technique. The result of this initiative is a complex form of intertwined planes, giving shape to the most beautiful composition.
