TOTEM SERIES

Vakr is the story of the synthesis of old and new techniques to generate timeless furniture designs. Sculptural in character, the form is guided by the laws of physics and the nature of the materials. A new furniture series by Vakr: ‘Lehar’ is inspired by the shape and form of flexible membranes and structures; when weight or pressure is applied on them. It is a re-interpretation of how the form yields, morphing the structure to reach a stable point. Vakr breaks conventional furniture stereotypes by Exploring Concrete, Rattan, and Wood in an unusual amalgamation.

BENCH SERIES

Vakr Bench, crafted with meticulous attention to detail, it strikes a perfect balance between curves and utility, making it a versatile addition to any space. This eight feet long bench, curving both ways in elevation and section defies conventional design, serving as a true physics masterpiece. It can be added as a part of a dining space, living room or even bedroom seating. A fascinating form developed by exploring different alternates of bending rigid structures. This sculptural piece is a direct interpretation of how rigid forms can become fluid through incisions-graceful transformation that seamlessly unites function and aesthetics. The balance achieved between the durability of concrete & slight metallic hues gives it the required artistic allure.

The Dravam collection is a collaborative journey between designer and artisan looking to re-imagine their Indian heritage. Through the expertise of various artisans, Vakr Studio endeavours to re-imagine specific traditional disciplines that embody centuries-old knowledge passed on from one generation to another. Each furniture piece in the series evokes an emotional impact embedded within its functionality. With engraving experts, wood artisans, and specialised painters, a unique design vocabulary emerges, pushing our understanding of modernity to meet centuries-old cultural histories.

NAMITI SERIES

Discover the allure of Namiti – a collection that seamlessly weaves together the timeless harmony of wood and rattan . Derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Namiti’, meaning ‘fusion’ or ‘joining’, and drawing from the same contour language as the Lehar series, this collection showcases the perpetual charm of reclaimed wood and the artistry of rattan. Namiti’s beauty lies in its ability to blend different types of hardwood, resulting in a rich brown color variation that harmonizes seamlessly with various materials.
